Clinics

The practice offers a wide range of family planning services. All methods are catered for including Nexplanon (the contraceptive implant). Patients requesting this will be referred to a specialist family planning clinic.

Emergency contraception is available on every working day. Please advise the receptionist that you require this service and you will be allocated a timely same day priority appointment in line with our emergency contraception arrangements.

Patients requesting ongoing contraceptive services and medication including the pill, the injection and the coil will be asked to see a doctor once a year for annual review of the suitability of ongoing prescription.  Please make your appointment in advance of your medication being due for renewal.

The specialist service of coil fitting and review is provided by Dr F O’Hagan. You can discuss the suitability of this method with any doctor who will then arrange for an appointment with Dr O'Hagan at a suitable time.

Nexplanon (the contraceptive implant) can be fitted by Dr O'Hagan or Dr Siobhan O'Reilly.

The Treatment Room nursing team provides a comprehensive service which includes dealing with wounds and dressings, blood and urine tests, ECGs, injections, suture removal and monitoring of patients on warfarin treatment.

INR (Warfarin Clinic) Tuesday afternoon 2.00 pm - 5 pm (please bring your yellow book), please contact the practice or organise an appointment.

Ear Syringing is by appointment only in afternoons, and routine blood pressure checks are only carried out in the afternoon.  

If you are on inhalers you will be invited for review with Practice Nurse Hughes or a GP, at least annually. A reminder letter will be sent to you near the time and you are advised to telephone reception to book an appointment for a time that suits you.

If you have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease you will be invited for review at least annually with Practice Nurse Hughes. An appointment will be sent out to you when your review is due.

If you are on medication to control your blood pressure, you will need to have your BP checked at least every six months.  If you have not had it done during this period, you will be offered an appointment with either Practice Nurse Hughes or Practice Nurse Watson.

The Coronary Heart Disease Clinic runs from Monday to Wednesday on alternate days and provides a service for monitoring patients with heart disease. The clinic is run by Practice Nurse Watson.  Appointments are offered at least annually. Patients are required to attend the treatment room one week prior to appointment to have blood tests.

The diabetic clinic is run by Practice Nurse Watson who is experienced in diagnosing and treating diabetes. The clinic operates Monday to Wednesday on alternate days. Appointments are offered on an annual basis or more frequently if required.

NB  If you do not attend three appointments for any of these clinics, without contacting the surgery, you will be discharged from the clinic for that year.  This is to ensure that our service runs efficiently.

Minor surgery is carried out by Dr O’Hagan, by appointment only.  Any of the doctors can see you to arrange a minor surgery appointment.  Minor surgery will not be done unless you have first seen a doctor to assess the appropriateness of the procedure.

Cervical screening (smear test) is carried out by our practice nurses. When your smear is due an appointment will be sent to you. If this appointment does not suit you can telephone the surgery to rearrange it.

Flu clinics are run each autumn for the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions which put them at risk of complications of influenza. If you are not invited to attend yet feel you should have the vaccine, contact reception for advice.

Our Midwife-led antenatal clinics are held on Thursday mornings by appointment.

Baby clinic (vaccines only) is held once a week on a Thursday morning with one of our GPs, the health visitors hold a clinic once a week on a Wednesday morning. This clinic has been developed to assess children as they grow, to protect and immunise them against disease and to offer parents encouragement and advice.

Please do not bring ill children to this clinic, as we wish to reduce the risk of spreading infections to well children attending for assessment and vaccination. Sick children will be treated by doctors running routine daily surgeries.
